Rewind Momma
My mother was so excited when she came into my house carrying a small bag. As for me, I soon regretted it.
You see, she had just bought a box set of Christmas movies for Sara. VHS tapes. Yep, this was a few years ago. Anyway, at this time, Sara was a toddler and mom wanted her to enjoy all of the old TV shows we had enjoyed over the years. One of these movies was, “Frosty the Snowman.”
To be honest, I wasn’t a big fan of this movie. As a child, I found the scene upsetting where Frosty melted in a hot green house. He was trying to keep one the other characters, Susie, safe and warm. In essence, he sacrificed his life for her. To be fair, I also used to cry during, “Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer.” To this day, I still don’t like certain scenes.
Sara’s favorite movie in the pack was “Frosty.” She watched it over and over and over. And over again. It played in her room not only through December, but January as well. In my mind, I can still see her sitting on the carpeted floor in her pajamas and yelling, “Rewind Momma.”
“Thinkest thou that I cannot now pray to my Father, and he shall presently give me more that twelve legions of angels?” Matthew 26:53 (KJV)
In the fictional movie, Frosty sacrificed his life for Susie. And in the end, he returned to visit her. In this very real world, Jesus died and sacrificed himself to save us from our sins. He could’ve called on angels to take him off of the cross, but He loved us too much to do that. And yes, He will return again one day, but He won’t be just visiting.
At one point, I wasn’t sure how much more of “Frosty” I could take. Thankfully, Sara grew tired of watching it. I still remember the feeling of relief. Ironically, I may have done something similar to my husband Tim. I love watching the movie Elf. One day I was watching it and he told me he couldn’t watch it anymore. Oh my. At least, it was on DVD and I didn’t have to yell, “Rewind.”
