Red Devils baseball opens 2021 campaign
Horace Maynard baseball season opened with the First Pitch Tournament at CAK Feb, 26 and 27 and the Red Devils return March 1 against Claiborne Middle Schools at 5 p.m. for their home opener.
The Red Devils are coming off a COVID-shortened undefeated season in 2020. With the loss of most of the season it is really hard to see where the team will be.
“Our success this year will depend heavily on the pitching and defense as every year,” states Red Devil Head Coach John Edds.
“There are a lot of holes to fill for the 2021 season. The pitching staff will be inexperienced and young but will be led by 8th graders Jake Ryder and Ty Edds. Others expected to contribute on the ‘Hill’ are Harlen Hunley, 7th graders Maddix Wyrick, Garrett Graves, Brandon Reed and Daniel Bailey, and 6th Graders Tucker Flannigan and Lincoln Barton.
“The Expectations are high to pitch some quality innings and I expect them all to do their job well and give us an opportunity to win.”
Offensively the Red Devils will expect Edds, Ryder and Wyrick to lead the way in the batting lineup and there are high expectations for several others to contribute to scoring runs.
Sixth graders Aiden Bowman, Van Richardson, Flannigan and Barton also will have early opportunities to help the Red Devils find their way. Some good talent that has shown a lot of promise since the fall workouts and who Coach Edds expects to contribute are Cole Williams, Brayden Hall,, and William Peck. See the schedule and come out and see some exciting baseball at the Red Devils’ games. A big thank you goes out to all the sponsors for their help with the Horace Maynard baseball program.
