Raw Hide

Who doesn’t love a good celebration? I even attended one while being injured, but this time, it wasn’t from a fall.
My stepfather has two granddaughters who graduated from high school together in Ormond Beach, Florida. My step brother and sisters invited all of us to come down for the celebration. So that year we went down to visit them in May instead of our usual trip to there in October.
My mom and stepfather attended the graduation ceremony. Tim, Sara, and I didn’t because of limited seating. So, while they were all gone, we went down to the beach. We even took our dog at that time, Little John. That day we had the best time. You know what happens to time when you’re having fun: it flies. In fact, we didn’t realize that we had been on the beach for hours until we heard my mom calling us: “Are you all still planning on going to the celebration? If so, you all need to be getting ready.”
Needless to say, we ran back to the hotel room. I jumped into the shower first since there was only one bathroom. That way I could be doing my hair and makeup in the room while Tim and Sara took their showers. It seemed like a good idea at the time.
As we drove, I realized my legs were beginning to sting. By the time we arrived at the restaurant, my legs felt as if they were on fire. When we got out of the car, I looked down to my legs. My raw legs. To my horror, I realized I had unknowingly shaved my very sunburned legs.
“The thoughts of the diligent tend only to plenteousness; but of every one that is hasty only to want.” Proverbs 21:5 (KJV
Those of you who have seen me were probably thinking: “Brooke, you are so fair skinned. You should have known you were burnt”. I would totally agree. Obviously, I was in too much of a hurry to be very diligent in my thinking. Also, I didn’t take into account how much hotter and stronger the sunlight is in May than it is in October. So, take a couple of lessons from me. First, don’t let yourself be rushed. Second, stop and think about things. Third, hairy legs never hurt anybody.
