Chief Brandon Ford explains the statistics captured from the radar speed signs recently installed in Plainview.

Plainview has plenty of curvy roads and has installed some rdar speed signs to remind everyone to slow down and avoid an accident. Chief Brandon Ford reported in the January meeting of the Board of Aldermen that the radar speed signs recently installed on two roads in the City of Plainview seem to be encouraging drivers to obey the posted speed limit, The sign located in Whispering Pines where the speed limit is 20 mph yielded data showing the average speed since December 14 to be 22.29 mph with only two of the 5,394 cars traveling over 40 mph. The radar speed signs on Wolfe Road where the speed limit is 25 mph reported the average speed to be about 24 mph. Of more than 6,200 cars recorded on Wolfe Road, only 2 speeds exceeded 40mph. Chief Ford stated that the radar speed signs are doing their job, and he thanked the citizens of Plainview for helping to keep the city safe by observing speed limits.

Another safety measure in Plainview is the Neighborhood Watch Group. Neighborhood Watch meets the third Thursday of each month at the Plainview Community Center.

The City of Plainview will hold a public meeting on January 25, 2022, at 6:00pm at Plainview City Hall to present information to the public on the FY 2022 Community Development Block Grant Program. All interested citizens are invited to attend and comment on possible projects. According to Vice Mayor Richard Phillips, the CDBG guidelines have changed to possibly include money for some road upgrades. The recent improvements on Wolfe Road were done with federal grant funds at no cost to the City of Plainview.
