The Luttrell Volunteer Fire Department hosted a fun-packed day at the Annual Plainview Spring Fest on Saturday, May 18. From 9:00am to 5:00pm, partakers could stop in at the Plainview Community Center for entertainment, vendors, auctions, children’s activities, delicious food, and even a visit to Snow Cone Eddie.
At the opening ceremony, prayer was led by Justin McBee followed by speaker Bradley Woods. A special presentation of the National Anthem was sang by Tasha McBee. Ricky Merritt served as MC for the occasion.
There was a spectacular talent lineup from beginning to end with entertainment from Gospel Strings, Darrell Williams and Family, Crossroads, Commission Band, Southern Spirit, Melba Green, The Atkins’, and Tumblin’ Run. Many businesses and organizations showed their appreciation to the firefighters through sponsorship of the event and program. Donors include Dollywood, Ruby Falls, Wonderworks, Tennessee Smokies, Tonya Atkins, Food City, Ripley’s Aquarium of the Smokies, City of Plainview, Man Crates, Rock City, Pizza Plus, B&D Auto Sales, YMCA, Wilderness of the Smokies, First Century Bank, Bristol Motor Speedway, Grand Ole Opry, Plainview Lady’s, AMC Theatres, Kim Woods, Country Tonite Theatre, Shoney’s, Waffle House, Ski Ober Gatlinburg, Answers In Genesis, Gary Beeler, Lisa England, Dolly Parton’s Stampede, and Thin Green Line.
Many vendors were set up at the festival bringing festivities and items available to guests. Firetrucks were set up for view near the silent and live auction area. Children could take a complimentary train ride, engineered by firefighter Mark England. Preservation Union County was present in promoting preservation of the natural and historic resources of Union County all whilst looking to recruit new members to their organization. Craft vendors were present selling jewelry, wreaths, floral arrangements, wind chimes, birdhouses, and more. Coffee, Avon, plants, and more were also available.
The children enjoyed the sunshine at the playground and in the blowup jump house. When it got a little too hot, it was nice to take a break with a snow cone to cool off while listening to the local music shows. This was a family event enjoyed by many throughout the day.
