The City of Plainview introduced its new utility truck at the May meeting of the Plainview Board of Aldermen. The new three-quarter ton truck is a 2022 Ford 250 with 4-wheel drive and the latest in electronic and safety enhancements. According to Vice Mayor Richard Phillips, the new one replaces a truck that is 22 years old and will be a welcome addition to the maintenance vehicles. The old truck was declared surplus and will be sold.
Plainview held two public hearings before the meeting. One public hearing addressed the FY 23 budget and the other offered citizens a chance to respond to the new building codes and fee schedule for building permits. During the meeting, the board approved on second reading both Resolution 152 regarding the budget and Resolution 153 which established the 2018 International Building Code and the International Residential Code with a few local modifications as the requirements for construction in the City of Plainview.
Plainview will have a city building inspector who will be responsible for a minimum of three inspections for new buildings. Permit fees will be on the basis of square footage for new buildings or additions to existing buildings and a flat fee will be charged for storage buildings and mobile homes placed after May. The fee schedule may be obtained from the office on Tuesday or Thursday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. or by calling the office at 865-992-5841 and recording a message.
Vice Mayor Phillips also reported that the Community Development Block Grant to make improvements on Corryton Road and Sallings Road has been submitted. There were 120 applications and the determination of the awards will be available in September of this year.
He also noted that the American Rescue Funds are being used in cooperation with the City of Luttrell to make improvements in the sewer system. Plainview is continuing to also improve access to fire hydrants throughout the city.
