Vice Mayor Richard Phillips

Vice Mayor Richard Phillips explains the plan for snow removal in Plainview.

The City of Plainview Board of Aldermen discussed how to clear the roads of snow and ice at its December and January meetings. Becky Munsey made the request during a public forum.
Vice Mayor Richard Phillips chaired the meeting on January 9, and reported that negotiations were ongoing to contract with Luttrell City to brine or clear the Plainview Roads. Phillips is also exploring other methods to address the issue of snow and ice.
Stewart Skeen reported that the Planning Commission had accepted the building plan and the recommendations of the Design and Review Board for the Family Dollar at the corner of Tazewell Pike and Ailor Gap. However, Skeen noted that TDOT had not approved a connection permit yet, so construction may begin later than the initial February date.
Phillips announced that Mayor Chandler had retained Darrick Edmondson of Edmondson & Edmondson in Maynardville as the new city attorney. Edmondson is reviewing the snow removal contract.
In addition, Chandler has hired Johnny Collins to fill the vacancy in the Plainview Police Department. Collins has 20 years of experience in law enforcement.
The next meeting of the Plainview Board of Aldermen will be Tuesday, February 13, at the Plainview Community Building at 7 p.m. with the Planning Commission at 6:30.
