Plainview commends UC Patriots baseball & track champions

During the summer meetings of the City of Plainview, Mayor Gary Chandler and the Plainview Board of Alderman honored the Union County High School Patriots baseball team and two members of the track team for their state titles.
In June, Mayor Chandler presented a proclamation to recognize the historic performance of the baseball team for winning the Division 1 Class 2A Tennessee State Championship. Team members William Peck, Hunter Holloway, Ty Edds, Tanner Jones, Brandon Reed, and Max Richardson proudly accepted the proclamation for the whole team.
The players brought their trophy and related some of their thoughts and more memorable moments. Younger members of the team are looking toward another successful season in 2024. The team is coached by Josh Orrick.
In July, Mayor Chandler recognized Callie Wetzel and Alden Wetzel for their Division 1 AA Track and Field State Championship titles.
Callie, a 10th grader, won first place in 100 meter hurdles and 300 meter hurdles. Alden, a senior, placed first in the 200 meter dash, sceond in the 400 meter dash, and third in the 100 meter dash.
Callie expressed gratitude for herself and her brother since he could not attend the meeting.
Coaches for track and field include Kaitlin Suffridge as the head coach with Lydia Holt and Whitney Copeland as assistant coaches.
The proclamations referenced their excellent sportsmanship in addition to their spectacular achievement, and wished them “sincere congratulations and continued success in their endeavors.”
The City of Plainview has also erected four signs on roads entering the city from Knox County that recognize these outstanding athletes.
