The Plainview Board of Aldermen awarded a $10,000 check to Luttrell Volunteer Fire Department at the August meeting.
Plainview recently built an extended bay for the fire department and is planning to help with furnishing the living quarters. Chief Brad Woods accepted the donation and expressed his gratitude for Plainview's support.
Chief Woods reported that LVFD has answered 81 calls to date. He stated that veteran LVFD firefighters are receiving certificates for a 16-hour refresher course. Currently they are working to schedule Hazmat Training. These trainings are part of the process required by the state to apply for the state incentive pay to rural volunteer firefighters.
Plainview approved Ordinance 162 to set the term limits for the Planning Commission. The Board also approved Resolution No. 87 to allow MTAS to review and codify the ordinances according to current state regulations. The Board agreed to pay the registration if any for zoning training for the Plainview Planning Commissioners and the Codes Enforcement Officer. The Board reappointed Josh Collins to the Planning Commission and Richard Phillips to be the Vice Mayor.
Marilyn Toppins, member of the TDOT North Rural Planning Organization (NRPO), reported that TDOT has instituted a 10-year plan to make sure that what road projects are started, get completed. Because of the new policy, SR 61 is not in the funding plan. However, the state will review the SR 61 two-phase project to determine if it can be separated into smaller less expensive steps that can access safety and other forms of revenue. SR 61 and SR 131 are to be re-paved in 2025.
At the end of the meeting, everyone celebrated the new Mayor Lynn Beeler with cake and punch.
The next Plainview Meetings are September 10, with the Planning Commission at 6:30 p.m. and the Board of Aldermen at 7.
