Passionate Pickin' at the Opry
Tim Shelton Syndicate played and sang with passion and emotion at the Union County Opry on August 5, 2023. The band opened with a fast paced song from their debut album titled Ain't got No Woman with Shelton carrying the melody. They followed with Middle Age Crazy by Jerry Lee Lewis. Then covered songs by Ralph Stanley and the Stanley Brothers. Joe Booher nailed Killin in Griffin and proceeded to wow the audience with his mandolin picking throughout the performance. Jr. Williams, who played guitar and banjo, owned Roving Gambler. People hummed and sang Deep River Woman along with the band. Rounding out the band were Avery Welter, who provided vocals and guitar picking along with Sam Lauderbaugh, who played an amazing bass. The melodic songs were memorable, but it was the instrumentals that brought the audience to its feet as people witnessed some masterful picking, not just strumming the melody. After the show, the whole band came out to shake hands, take pictures, give hugs, sign autographs, and share their debut album.
Tim Shelton Syndicate will return to the area in September. On September 14, the band performs at the Poppy Mountain Bluegrass Festival in Morehead, Kentucky. On September 23, they will be in Johnson City to play Down Home. Tim Shelton Syndicate is definitely worth the trip!
