Papaw and Old Spice

Have you ever felt like you have been hit in the chest? I am not talking literally. That being said, I think I have been hit over the years by any kind of ball you can think of: softball, football, basketball, volleyball and or any other plastic ball. In this article, I am talking about something touching your heart and memories.
A few years ago, I was over at my friend’s house and I needed to use one of her restrooms. For some reason, I went into one that I had never before used. As soon as I walked in, I saw it. I came to a stop as my childhood memories came flooding back. Memories I hadn’t thought of since I was a little girl. There sitting on her counter was a shaving brush that was lying in a small shaving bowl. For a second, I couldn’t breathe.
When I was a little girl, I loved to watch my Papaw E.O. shave. Usually, I would put down the lid on the toilet, sit on it, and watch him without saying a word. I was just too mesmerized by his shaving routine. First, he would open his medicine cabinet and get out his shaving bowl and brush. In the bowl, he would pour in his Old Spice shaving cream. Then he’d take his brush and stir it until it was a certain consistency. I loved watching him swing the brush about his face as he evenly spread the shaving cream. Let me tell you, some people can’t put on their make-up that even. Once he examined his now white cheeks, he would shave his face. While all of this was going on, he always had on a white undershirt. He was very old school about things. I never, ever saw my Papaw without some kind of shirt on.
The best part of all of this was the fact that I think he enjoyed me being there than me watching him shave. Why do I say that? Because he would often sing to me while he shaved. If only I could experience that again.
“I thank my God upon every remembrance of you,” Philippians 1:3 (KJV)
In this verse, Paul is being thankful for the help he received from the Philippians. Are you thankful to those who help you and/or love you? Stop and thank about that. What would you do without them? Now say a prayer of thanks for those people. They are truly a blessing.
I hope to have grandchildren of my own one day and I hope to have a special memory with them that they will always treasure. In case you’re wondering, it won’t be me shaving my face.
