Pan Fried Onions

Occasionally I find onions in a five-pound bag at a reasonable price. Then it's time to make some of my onion recipes. Delicious served with liver or hamburgers.
Pan Fried Onions
1 to 1-1/2 pounds dry yellow or white onions
1/2 teaspoon salt
3 tablespoons margarine or bacon drippings
Choose mild sweet onions. Peel carefully to preserve shape. Wash. Remove thin slices from root and stem ends. Slice onions 1/4 to 1/2 inches thick. Have the fat heated to sizzling in large skillet over medium heat. Add onions. Sprinkle with salt. Cover, reduce heat to a simmer and cook slowly until they are soft and translucent, 8 to 10 minutes.
