Out of the Attic Interiors
One of Union County’s newest businesses shows promise of opportunity for both, today and tomorrow. Out of the Attic Interiors is owned by Duayne and Toni Huddleston of Corryton. “Where there is a will, there’s a way; and God made a way.” says business owner, Toni Huddleston. This new venture opened on April 5, 2019 and is planning its Grand Opening Celebration for late April with items so unique that there is always something new to see.
Toni Huddleston states, “My husband and I were interested in this business because of our love for renewing old things. We kept finding ourselves in antique stores, vintage stores, and even auctions with flashbacks to wonderful childhood memories. We both had so many good memories that we hope the store will provide the community with those pleasant recollections as well. So, when you see a tobacco stick star, maybe you will recall using those sticks to play whiffle ball in the back yard. Maybe the old hen on a nest glassware sets will remind you of your grandmother’s hard candy favorites too.”
When asked specifically about the business name, Out of the Attic Interiors, Huddleston provided a serene response that brought nostalgia for a much simpler time; “An attic is often somewhere items are placed and long forgotten: items too treasured to be discarded or to full of memories to relinquish. I chose this name because the unique items available in the store are well made, well preserved, and full of these same longings that I love so dearly.”
Huddleston holds a concept toward business opportunities for local small business owners that is unique and fitting to rural towns. “Starting a business can be costly and risky and extremely scary for some people” says Huddleston. Vendors at Out of the Attic Interiors are able to rent space inside the store and display their merchandise without committing to the steep overhead costs of a brick and mortar retail store. To make things even easier, Out of the Attic Interiors manages all sales and staffing for a small sales commission. The low risk business model grants opportunity to collectors, craftsmen, and small scale entrepreneurs that may not exist otherwise.
Huddleston says the venture has started off strong and will only continue to grow as the community becomes more aware of the unique gifts, furniture, antiques, and home décor available to Union County and traveling or vacationing consumers. Limited spaces are available for potential new vendors interested in securing a retail location; however, booth rentals are filling up fast. “In time, the community will be familiar with Out of the Attic Interiors and its vendors. Shoppers will frequent the store in their hometown rather than commuting the distance to other counties for items that are available locally” says Huddleston.
The Grand Opening Celebration is to be held Saturday, April 27th, 2019 from 11am to 6pm where Snow Cone Eddie plans to setup in support of the new business venture and world class barbecue is being served by co-owner and four time State BBQ Champion, Duayne Huddleston, while supplies last. Out of the Attic Interiors is located at 2917 Maynardville Highway, beside New You Hair Salon and across the highway from Union County Motor Company at Ailor Gap. The regular hours of operation are Wednesday through Saturday 11AM to 6PM. Out of the Attic Interiors offers unique treasures of once forgotten items resurfaced for future generations to enjoy. Support your neighbors in small business and shop local. Everyone is invited and encouraged to attend!
