Opening market brings a crowd

Over 300 people visited the opening day of the Union County Farmers Market on May 6, 2023. Deerinda Cooke, the new manager, kicked off the market with a flourish of musical entertainers and Smokey, the Bluetick Coonhound mascot.

Dozens of vendors included Thunder Road Candles, Sweet Treats by Emily, Little Valley Nursery, Seven Springs Farm, House Mountain Bounty, and UT Extension to name a few. Produce included a variety of greens, tomatoes, onions, and boxes of sweet strawberries. Tables of baked goods showcased cinnamon bread, strawberry streusel, cupcakes, cookies, and breakfast bars. Other tables boasted frangrant candles, aromatic teas, striking jewelry, and unique crafts. A couple of vendors had USDA certified meats for sale.
