NLPA Norris Lake Cleanup
The Norris Lake Protection Alliance “NLPA” organized a lake cleanup project on September 10th and 11th. Working in conjunction with Norris Lake Project “NLP”, the NLPA continues to make a positive difference for all who enjoy Norris Lake. The Team of 26 volunteers donated their time, boats, fuel, and trucks to remove trash from Norris Lake. The effort was focused in four locations: Dollar Island, Gull Island, the shore area of Chuck Swan across from Sunset Bay and Island 23. The Team collected 4.5 truckloads of garbage, 1 truck load of tires plus filled a 10 yard dumpster with dock and floating house floats that were found on these locations. Even with our first day being shortened by bad weather, the Team made a big impact.
Norris Lake is a beautiful lake that cannot be taken for granted. It takes wonderful people like these volunteers who invested a small amount of time to collect trash to help maintain this wonderful lake we all enjoy. Please practice “leave no trace” boating and camping by taking all the trash you create or find with you when you leave.
We would like to extend our sincere appreciation to NLP who provided the trash barge, dumpster, supplies, their time and hard work. Please check out their website; www.norrislakeproject.com to find clean-up sites and dates they have scheduled or contact them if you have an area you want to work with them on cleaning up. It’s a great service opportunity for churches, youth groups, communities, or any organization.
I believe everyone who volunteered had a great sense of satisfaction and would encourage everyone to donate their time and effort to Keep Norris Blue.
