Nicholas Gibbs Historical Society Annual Meeting

Nicholas Gibbs Historical Society Annual Meeting

The Nicholas Gibbs Historical Society will convene its 2018 annual meeting at 11 am June 9, 2018 at the homestead, 7633 East Emory Road, Corryton, Tennessee. Attendees are asked to bring a covered dish for the meal that follows the meeting. Local musicians will provide traditional Appalachian music and there will be an interesting speaker.

A covered pavilion has been constructed at the homestead, and donations are still being accepted toward its cost.

This is one of the few homes in the United States from 1793 still standing on its original foundation and in the same family. The homestead is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It is a treasure for everyone to enjoy and be proud of. A membership is $25 a year and a family membership is $40. Membership checks may be sent to Sonya Collins, 9822 Emory Road, Corryton, Tennessee 37721.

I will have a book table set up and will be available to sign books for anyone who is interested.

The 2016 gathering of the Nicholas Gibbs Historical Society is covered on pp152-155 of More Tales from the Hills and Hollows of East Tennessee. Other books also available are: Our Union County Families, Union County Faces of War, Union County Schoolday Memories, Tales from the Hills and Hollows of East Tennessee, A History of Pleasant Grove Methodist Church, A History of Hansard Chapel Methodist Church, Mark Monroe: East Tennessee Pioneer and his Corn Crib. I still have a few copies of Long Lost Cuzzins by Elmo Johnson, and I have one copy of Lincoln Memorial University (Memories and More) by the late Bonnie Page.
