Union County High School senior Barron Nease signed with Maryville College April 5, where he will continue his academic and basketball career.

During his senior year, the six foot two guard was named the 3-AA Player of the Year, pumping in 18.7 points and grabbing 6.7 rebounds per game. Nease was a member of the District 3-AA all–tournament team as well as the All-Region 2-AA team in 2018-2019. Under head coach Shane Brown, Nease finished his high school career with 1,577 points ranking him as the number three all-time leading scorer for UCHS.

“Barron is a good kid who has worked hard and had a good career here,” said Brown. “He’ll have to continue the hard work to play at the next level.”

Nease said making the decision to sign with Maryville was an easy one. “I chose Maryville for the academics. Students from Maryville College have an easier time finding jobs after graduation.”

Maryville College Head Coach Raul Placeres is excited to have Nease join the Scots. “Barron is a perfect fit for Maryville College," said Placeres. “Coach Brown prepares his players for the next level. You can expect Barron’s understanding of the game to be college ready. He has a great stroke from the perimeter and he knows how to attack the basket off the dribble. Barron is a young man with great talent and exceptional character.”

Barron is the son of Kelvin and Joy Nease.
