'Moving' and the Union County Farmers Market

Nourish Moves – and the market – are really moving! Beginning Saturday, September 7, the Union County Farmers Market will be located in the Union County High School student parking lot – you’ll be able to see us from the road! The hours are not changing, they will still be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., just the location. This move is a sign of progress; it means that Heritage Park and the farmers market pavilion construction is resuming!
Moving is a sign of progress, not just for Heritage Park but also for each of us. Every time we move, we improve our own health. You may have heard some of the old adages, “movement is medicine” or, “use it, or lose it!” Nourish Moves is a program sponsored by Nourish Knoxville and is designed to encourage all of us to move more. When you come to the market, you check out a pedometer and start moving! You earn produce bucks for your walking on that day plus, your steps during market hours are recorded and incentives provided.
Nourish Moves numbers are on the rise and they are impressive...let’s check the stats!
Total steps taken at the market: 759,167
Total # of check-ins: 305
Total produce bucks distributed: $705
Lots of participants have reached market milestones such as attending five markets and earning one of the Nourish Knoxville shopping bags, or walking 20,000 steps and earning stretch bands from UT Extension Union County.
We would love to see these stats grow during the fall. Since we are moving our location, we have a special Nourish Moves Scavenger Hunt scheduled for Saturday, September 21. This will be in conjunction with our monthly Nourish Kids event and, yes, we encourage entire families to join the Nourish Moves program.
Our Scavenger Hunt will take you all around the Wilson Park area so you can learn more about the amenities available, as well as learn more about an upcoming event: the Heritage Festival.
Guess where the market will be on that day? Not in the student parking lot as you’ll need to park somewhere! Isn’t there a car show? Where will the 4-H members be? Are they baking biscuits again this year (and giving away hot-from-the-oven samples)? Can I watch some old-timey demonstrations? Listen to music? Where? Join in on our Nourish Moves Scavenger Hunt and you’ll discover the answers to some of these questions and more!
Nourish Moves is every Saturday at the market. Don’t forget to join us in our new location, take that extra walk to Wilson Park (it will be closer now!), turn in the pedometer you checked out and get paid in produce bucks to spend at the market.
Check out our new location beginning Saturday, September 7, and on September 14, you can walk the market during the Fall Palooza. Fall Palooza is a celebration of all the fall produce available at market. There will be music and you can learn from (and enjoy samples from) the 4-H Grill Team.
Saturday, September 21 is Nourish Kids as well as the Nourish Moves Scavenger Hunt; on September 28th, the market will be promoting their crafters; and then the season wraps up at the Heritage Festival on Saturday, October 5.
We’re looking forward to seeing you at the market “where our community meets.”
