A Moment of Silence

Archie Wilson

Revelation 8:1
“And when he had opened the seventh seal, there was silence in heaven about the space of half an hour.”

I’ve had enough! I am about sick and tired of all of this politically correct nonsense going on in our country. At the writing of this article, I have just returned from a high school graduation ceremony. It is past midnight, and I can’t sleep until I write this article.

We try our best in print to present the truth of God’s word in sincerity with gentleness, respect, and hopefully a measure of humbleness. I personally don’t want to offend anyone, but if the word of God offends them, then the Gospel has begun its job. After all, a person cannot be saved until one realizes they’re lost. It is not my intention to alienate anyone or bring a railing accusation against anyone. However, it is high time we awake out of our sleep and take our stand girded about with truth and arrayed with the whole armor of God (see Ephesians 6: 11-20).

So, we go to this graduation ceremony for a local high school and an authority figure for all the county schools says, “Let us observe a moment of silence before we begin.” A MOMENT OF SILENCE! Our kids are being mass murdered, committing suicide, on drugs, being abused (I’m getting sicker by the moment thinking about all of this) and we are OBSERVING A MOMENT OF SILENCE!

What we need to be doing is observing several hours per day on our knees praying to the Maker of Heaven and earth for our nation. President Ronald Reagan once said, “If we ever forget that we are one nation under God, then we will be a nation gone under.”

We are either “One nation under God” or we aren’t; a former president said we are not. In Revelation Chapter 3, Jesus told the church of the Laodiceans that because they were neither cold nor hot but lukewarm that they made Him sick and He wanted to throw up (my paraphrase).

Now I know a bit about the administrators and teachers of this particular school and we are fortunate to have each of them at this school. As a matter of fact, last year one of the administrators boldly gave praise and honor to Jesus Christ, but I could tell they had been forced into some restraints this year. This administrator made the right choice for our children, because I assure you our children are much better off for that person being at this school right now.

I want to come to a close on a more positive note. The same restraints are not upon the students! Many of them took advantage of their graduation and freedom of speech to praise the Lord Jesus Christ our Saviour. One young lady in particular exercised her right of free speech, to a rousing applause, as she very eloquently and with passion quoted several Bible passages. This gave me great hope. But I pray our children don’t have to suffer persecution for being Christians because our generation was afraid to take a stand. Just as the young lady had the good sense to take advantage of her right to free speech, we as citizens of the United States of America are under no such restraints either! At least not yet, unless we remain silent and allow fools to continue governing our nation and slowly stealing our freedoms. We don’t have to rage; we don’t have to riot and we don’t have to take up arms against our government. All we have to do is take a stand on the word of God and pray.

“I cannot and will not recant anything, for to go against conscience is neither right nor safe. Here I stand, I can do no other, so help me God.”

Credited to Martin Luther 16th Century Christian Reformer, when called on the carpet to recant his published beliefs, which the 16th century rulers disagreed with.
