Melt-In-Your-Mouth Doughnuts
I try most every yeast bread dough that comes along. These doughnuts are especially good. They are light, airy and melt-in-your-mouth yeast raised doughnuts and stir together quickly. They don't need kneading. That is a plus. Try them.
Melt-In-Your-Mouth Doughnuts
3 egg yolks
1 package dry yeast
1 cup milk
2 tablespoons butter, melted
1 tablespoon sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt
2 cups plain flour
In small bowl mix yeast and sugar in lukewarm milk. Let stand until bubbly. Mix egg yolks with melted butter and yeast mixture. Beat well. Place flour and salt in mixer bowl. Make a nest and add yeast and egg mixture. Beat with mixer using dough hook until well mixed.
Cover and let stand for about an hour or so until well risen. Flour the board. Place dough on board. Form into a ball and let stand 15 minutes.
Then stretch the dough with your hands to 1/2 inch thickness. Cut out rounds with a cookie cutter. Fry in deep fat until golden brown. Make a small slit on top of each doughnut with a sharp knife and fill with 1 teaspoon strawberry jam or currant jelly. Sprinkle generously with granulated sugar.
