Maynardville Shop Brings Goods and Sundries to North Union County
Jacqueline Stallard, owner of Home Town Shack and Lil Bait Shack
I recently had the joy of meeting young entrepreneur Jacqueline Stallard when I visited her newest shop location, Home Town Shack, in Maynardville. Stallard opened this location—her latest venture—in March 2021 to bring a wide variety of items to the community. In a way, the offerings harken back to the days of the local mercantile, as there is a wide array of merchandise, from boutique items to fishing supplies and even fresh produce when in season. Stallard aims to meet the needs of the underserved northern end of Union County.
An experienced entrepreneur, Stallard opened the Lil Bait Shack, a fishing bait and tackle shop that also sells fresh produce, on the southern end of Claiborne County 5 years ago. Before that, she owned the “This and That” shop also in north Maynardville. Stallard is an experienced businessperson and educated in business management, recently earning an Associate of Arts Degree in Business Management from Walter State Community College.
Home Town Shack is well named due to the pleasant family vibe present. Stallard is the mother of two (boy age 7 and girl age 2) and enjoys the support of her family in operating both businesses, for which she is very thankful. Her sister, Samantha Howie, not only helps to man the store but also assists with quick responses to questions or comments on their Facebook pages.
When opening the Home Town Shack in Maynardville, Stallard knew she wanted to provide a genuine service to the community to fulfill its unmet needs and offer a variety of items, with the idea of taking cues from patrons themselves about how to fill the shelves.
Area campsites have kept both of her businesses—Lil Bait Shack and Home Town Shack—busy this summer, along with the local population becoming aware of both “Shacks” and what they have to offer. Stallard intends to add new inventory every two weeks and invites feedback from the community on what is needed or wanted so she can expand to better suit our needs.
