Maynardville Parade

As I lined up for the Christmas Parade in Maynardville, winning a trophy was the farthest thing from my mind. My purpose for being there was simply to take part in the event and enjoy the day with my wife, Frances. However, my wife loves to decorate, so she put together a theme as though we were heading on a trip to visit friends with a huge bag of toys stuffed in the rumble seat and packages tied on the back with ribbons and bows. I’ll have to admit, when she was finished and we were traveling the parade route, shouts of Merry Christmas came throughout the entire parade. Even the uh-ga horn gave the impression that it was replying to the shouts of “Merry Christmas”.

The trophy we received was unexpected but was like putting icing on a cake. We want to thank the Rescue Squad, our first responders, law enforcement, every volunteer worker, and all that participated: the marching band, those with their floats, cars, trucks, tractors, horses, and every individual whether a spectator or participant. Seeing the thousands of families lined up braving the cold to watch the parade speaks great volumes about the value that the parade has on the community. The smiling faces of the children as they quickly ran to pick up the candy tossed to them brought great joy to me and my wife.

Above all things, let us remember the true meaning of Christmas. Jesus, the only begotten Son of God, came into this world for the sole purpose of bringing salvation to you and me.

May God Bless You Is My Prayer!
