Local Fisherman Inducted into Hall of Fame

Union County man, Archie Wilson, was inducted into the Morristown Marine Team Trail Invitational Hall of Fame on Saturday October 28, 2017. He received his trophy/plaque at the dinner banquet, we often refer to as the pork chop dinner, held at the Walter State Expo. Sam Phillips, owner of Morristown Marine, mentioned that the criteria for induction into the hall of fame is based upon several factors like integrity, honesty, passion for the sport, contribution to community and family.

Archie began fishing while still in his mother’s womb. I remember his mother, the late Shirley Wilson, telling how she and Archie Sr. (Archie ‘s dad) would go fishing and how she would prop the fishing pole on her belly when she was pregnant with Archie Jr. She would be proud to see him inducted into the fishing hall of fame. Their family continued the fishing tradition as Archie has lots of fond childhood memories fishing with his family, especially his grandfather, Shorty. His passion for fishing carried on into adolescence and throughout his adult life. A passion that is only surpassed by his love for God, God's word, and his family.

Archie was asked to say a few words when he accepted his induction into the Morristown Marine Hall of Fame. In his acceptance speech, Archie spoke humbly about how important God is in his life and what a difference He has made in his life since he gave everything to Him in prayer some years ago. Archie said with emotion and persuasion that he would give up all the winnings he had ever won and everything he has ever put into fishing, just to see one of his friends give their life to the Lord and have eternal life.

Archie was one of four fisherman inducted into the hall of fame for this tournament trail. Many others were recognized, some recognized for their top team trail standings and many others for their team trail sponsorship. I am proud of my husband for all of his accomplishments. I respect him most for the stand he has taken in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

His Land Mate,
Mrs. Wilson
