Lions to serve free spaghetti dinner before the Opry

Spaghetti Dinner

The Union County Lions Club will be hosting a free homemade spaghetti dinner for all Union County citizens on Saturday, September 7, at 5:30 p.m. at Union County High School. Dinner will include salad, Italian bread, drinks and desserts, and will be held just before the Union County Opry presents the Lonesome River Band. This band has been touring for 42 years and is one of the most respected names in Bluegrass.
Sammy Shelor, 5-time International Bluegrass Music Association Banjo Player of the Year, leads the group of stellar vocalists, and fiddle, bass, mandolin and guitar musicians. They will be in Oklahoma, South Carolina, Minnesota, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia, North Carolina and… Maynardville, Tennessee.
You do not need to attend the show to take advantage of the free dinner, but it is a fantastic opportunity for a delicious Saturday night dinner and an amazing foot-stomping, hand clapping, excellent bluegrass concert.
The Union County Lions Club does a great deal for people in this county. Most folks know about the free eye clinics held once a month in Fountain City for lower income residents. There are also programs to provide hearing aids or even cataract surgeries for those who really need and cannot afford them.
Kindergarten and pre-kindergarten eye screening is provided free in Union County schools annually. Recorded books, including textbooks, are available for those who cannot see or have specific reading disabilities through a program called Learning Ally (formerly known as Recording for the Blind).
Scholarships are awarded every spring to Union County High School seniors. All of these programs are funded when you buy concessions at any Opry events or the Heritage Festival, or when you purchase raffle tickets or pecans during these annual events.
The Lions Club would like to thank you for your support and bring you up to date on community involvement. So come to the high school at 5:30 on September 7. Bring your family, bring a date, come solo.
A delicious dinner, comradery, fellowship, information and, for those interested in making a fantastic night of it, the Lonesome River Band.
