Lighting The Christmas Tree
Friends and neighbors gathered at Wilson Park in Union County TN, many driving their antique cars for the cruise in and the lighting of the Christmas tree. I drove my 1929 Ford replica and parked next to the Veterans Wall to be part of this event. The tree at the top of the hill stands approximately 20 feet tall and shaped nearly perfect. It is not just an ordinary tree, it is special, placed in that particular spot and folks gathered to celebrate the beginning of the Christmas holidays. While I was waiting for the lighting of the tree, I was walking through the crowd looking at the antique cars when the announcement came over the PA System, more than 80 antique cars have showed up here this evening. It was exciting to see all of them as I continued walking. Some of the cars were in mint condition, some were a work in progress, but all reflected a distinct time in history. I enjoyed being there.
As Mayor Mike Williams began the count down for the lighting, all the crowd turned their attention toward this huge tree that had been decorated with such great care, when the lights came on, this beautiful tree was lit up giving it new character. Now it is a beautiful Christmas tree. To me this event is better than Black Friday or Cyber Monday. It’s amazing how this beautiful tree, a little barbecue and a lot of friendship brings us together. Fellowship with folks we've not seen in a long time is priceless.
