Leadership Union County Class of 2023 (Left to Right) Kelly Clarke, Sharps Chapel Fall Festival Chairman; Dr. Tobi Kilgore, HMMS Principal; Candy Booker, Election Commissioner; Garnet Southerland, Health Department Director; and Ann Russell, Register of Deeds.

Leadership Union County is seeking people who want to learn more about Union County or want to get involved in the many organizations that strive to improve the quality of life in Union County. LUC is currently enrolling participants in the Class of 2024.
Kelly Clarke, Dr. Tobi Kilgore, Candy Booker, Garnet Southerland and Ann Russell were the Leadership Class of 2023. The class represented community activists, educators, appointed and elected county officials and health care. They began their courses in April with a general orientation about leadership roles, and responsibilities as well as the different types of leadership.
From May to September, the class covered such topics as government, criminal justice, health, human services, industry, tourism, agriculture, education and technology. The curriculum was interactive with onsite visits and hands-on presentations.
Class members met with county officials in their offices at the courthouse, boarded trucks to drive deep into the mine in Luttrell, walked the farm at Seven Springs, and strolled Big Ridge Park to learn the many activities afforded tourists.
They visited schools to witness firsthand the role of technology and how it is impacting education. After graduation in September, members are eligible to participate in Leadership East Tennessee. Kilgore and Mindi Grimm will be representing Union County in LET 2024.
