Irwin's Chapel Church 'Walks 4 Water,' holds fundraiser event
One of our local churches, Irwin’s Chapel in Sharps Chapel, is forging a connection to Africa to help solve a community need.
Walk 4 Water Union County’s first annual fundraiser is coming to Wilson Park in Maynardville on Sunday, May 21, from 1 to 4 p.m. This will be a family fun celebration of all the blessings we have in Union County while raising funds for wells in Uganda where millions of people do not have access to clean, safe water.
The organizers of this event are Desiree and Mark Hensley, Sue Shick and Scott Gregory, all from Irwin’s Chapel. They were inspired by their recent mission trip to Uganda where they saw and heard firsthand the devastation caused by unsafe water.
The money raised will go to Water 4 Kids International, a 501(c)3, that has installed over 965 deep borehole wells in Uganda. In true Union County style, after the walk, there will be live bluegrass music, country line dancing and food trucks on site so you can grab a bite to eat.
