Indestructible
Growing up, I loved to watch super heroes. There were the old “Batman” reruns, “The Justic League” cartoon on Saturday mornings, and “Wonder Woman” starring Lynda Carter. But out of all of these, the only superhero I considered to be totally indestructible was Superman. Why am I telling you this? Because of our dog, Roxy.
A few years ago, Tim and I adopted Roxy from the Union County Humane Society. Naturally, we were so excited. And so was my friend Lynda. When she and her family came to visit Roxy, she brought a doggie chew toy she found at a pet store. Lynda told me it was supposed to be indestructible. My first thought was of Superman. Seriously.
If this doggie toy was like the cartoon Superman I used to watch, no lasers, no kryptonite, and no evil robot was going to destroy it. Not that we are ever around any of those. Anyway, Roxy would be enjoying her doggie chew toy for many years to come. Or so I thought. Each day I noticed there was less and less of it.
“Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? There is no searching of his understanding.” Isaiah 40:28 (KJV)
As you can see by the picture, there wasn’t much of the chew toy left. And it didn’t take long for Roxy to do that either. To be honest, I was a little disappointed. That being said, I should have known better. Only the Lord and His grace lasts forever. He has no end. He never tires. He never weakens. So don’t put your trust in things that are temporary. Put it the Eternal God.
Tim kept what was left of it as a souvenir. I think he was proud of the fact that his dog chewed up an indestructible doggie toy. I was fine with that as long as he didn’t want to display it next to my softball trophies.
