Red Devils Baseball Lose in a Close Game Against Campbell County. The Red Devils traveled to Campbell County on April 17. Trot Russell started out on the mound and lasted 3 innings, but was relieved by Eben Hansen in the fourth inning after giving up 2 runs to tie the game at 5. The two teams were tied going into the last inning. Hansen started the 5th with a walk and a double with no outs. Red Devils chose to load the bases with the #4 hitter up. Hansen struck the next batter out but then lost the next batter to a walk that was resulting in Campbell County winning with a walk-off base on balls. With Campbell County scoring a walk-off, the Devils lost 5-6. The Devils did not have a strong offense, nor did they have a strong defense.

HMMS Baseball Struggles on Spring Break Game on March 26. The Horace Maynard Middle baseball team played Claiborne County at home. Eben Hansen started out pitching and lasted only 1 inning. Hansen gave up a 3 run homerun. At the the end of the third inning, Claiborne was in the lead 9-1. With errors from Claiborne and runs and hits from Horace Maynard, the Devils made a comeback making the score tied 9-9. Coach John Edds used the whole pitching staff to keep the game in reach. Sadly, the Devil's lost their chance resulting with Claiborne scoring two runs in the top of the last inning.

The Red Devils Baseball Takes Another Win. The Horace Maynard baseball team played South Doyle Middle on April 2. Gavin Janeway headed to the mound where he would pitch 4 innings. Parker Hodge relieved Janeway for 1 inning. Max Richardson, Reed Melton, Ty Edds, and Trot Russell all had multiple hits that accounted for RBI’s. The Red Devils won with the score of 6-3. The Red Devil's communication and determination helped them gain the victory. The Devils have a record of 6-2.

The Red Devils Baseball Kills Cumberland Gap. The Red Devils journeyed to Cumberland Gap Monday, April 15. The Devils took the large win over Cumberland Gap with the score 15-2. Gavin Janeway pitched a solid game. Janeway allowed only 1 hit and 2 walks. Max Richardson, Ty Edds, and Eben Hansen had multiple hits resulting in RBI’s. The Devils had a strong offense and defense. The Devils played a good, solid game.

The Red Devils Baseball Comes Back Gaining Revenge. The Red Devils took on Claiborne County seeking revenge. In a previous game against Claiborne County, HMMS was defeated 11-9. Each player was determined to beat Claiborne this time around. Max Richardson stepped up to the mound knowing he had to throw strikes, and that is exactly what he did. Ty Edds got things going in the top half of the 2nd inning by reaching on an error of a hard-hit ball to the 2nd baseman. The Devils manufacture 2 runs. Parker Hodge hit an RBI in the third inning. The Devils scored another run putting the score at 3-1. The Red Devils’ win can be contributed to solid defense and a strong pitching game while showing true grit and determination to win! The last home game of the season will be Tuesday, April 23. The last home game will also be 8th grade night.

Horace Maynard’s Red Devil Baseball Defeat Morristown West. HMMS baseball challenged Morristown West Tuesday, April 16. The Devils took a big win over Morristown West with the score of 14-3. Max Richardson started out as pitcher, but due to an injury, he had to be relieved by Parker Hodge. Ty Edds, Hodge, Eben Hansen, Gavin Janeway, Kaiden Paul, and Tanner Jones all had RBI’s in the second inning. The large amount of RBI’s contributed to the 10 runs score in the second inning. Edds scored a run with a walk, Hodge singled on 3-2 count that scored 2 runs, Hansen singled 1-0 count, Paul drew a walk scoring him one run, Jones doubles a 1-0 count scoring 2 runs, and Trot Russell single on a 1-1 count scoring 1 run. The Red Devils had a very strong, solid game.

The HMMS Red Devils had a close game with Rutledge Pioneers which ended in extra innings. The Red Devils and Pioneers both had solid pitching and defense. Gavin Janeway started out on the mound, pitched 3 innings and was relieved by Parker Hodge. Pioneers pitcher Brady was in a groove with 11 strikeouts, and the Red Devils had their back against the wall at their last bat. Eben Hansen lead off the 6th inning with a hit to right center followed by Reed Melton who got on base because of an error. Kaiden Paul lays a bunt down to move the runner, and the Pioneers did not get the force out on 3. Tanner Jones was the last at bat and walks him, scoring the winning run. The Devils won 3-2 in extra innings.

HMMS Softball is Back on Top. The HMMS softball team played the Anderson County Mavericks on April 15th. Savannah Paul took the mound and had a rocky start in the first inning but stepped back up in the second inning. Tessa Ray hit to the outfield which put her at second and got the Lady Devils fired up. Savannah Paul and Aleyia Satterfield moved Tessa Ray around to home which tied the score 1-1. The score got up to 2-2, and the Devils had not given up. With a runner on 3rd, Carly Sexton was up to bat with a 2-2 count and hit the winning run in. The final score was 3-2, and the Lady Devils are back in 1st for the district.

The HMMS Red Devils lost to Claiborne a few weeks ago and received their first district loss in 3 years. April 18th, they had the opportunity to get revenge, and that's just what they did. Emery Bales started off on the mound and lasted till the end of the fourth inning when she was relieved by Savannah Paul. The Red Devils and The Blue Devils were tied 2-2. With a hit from the Blue Devils the score was 4-2, and the Devils were not ready to give up. Next time up to bat for the Devils, a rally was started by Savannah Paul and Teagan Monroe which led to the final score of 10-4.

HMMS Softball Victory Over Campbell Cougars. The HMMS Red Devils played Campbell County Cougars and played a great game. Emery Bales was first in the lineup and got everything started off by getting hit by the pitch. Aleyia Satterfield started out on the mound and pitched strong until she was relieved by Emery Bales in the 3rd inning. Teagan Monroe was up to bat and busted the ball over the fence. The final score of the game was 16-1 and the Lady Devils have won again.
