Hmms boys basketball enjoys historic season
The HMMS Boy's Basketball Team ended their season with a 48-46 loss to #1 seed Alcoa in the Elite Eight of the AAA Sectional Tournament on February 2 at John Sevier Middle School in Kingsport. The Red Devils advanced to the Sectional Tournament with a third place game win over Maryville in the District Tournament.
The team defeated Vance (Bristol) in a 1st Round Sectional game on a last-second shot by Cade Murphy. This sectional game win was the first in HMMS history by a HMMS team, boys or girls.
They finished their season with a record of 15 wins and four losses.
The only losses were to AIcoa (twice) and Sevierville (twice). Both of these teams advanced to the final four of the sectional tournament. Alcoa advanced to the final four of the State Tournament.
Key wins included Gibbs, Halls, and for the first time ever, Maryville (twice) and Carpenters (twice). The Red Devils were led by 8th grade standouts Cade Murphy and Ty Edds. Other starters were 8th graders Jake Ryder, Carter Nicley and Seth Grigsby. The team was coached by Christian Chandler and Gary Chandler.
