Defense dooms the Devils
The Devils had a tough loss on Thursday night as they traveled to Clinton for a conference matchup.
Seventh grader Maddix Wyrick started on the mound with Ty Edds behind the plate. Wyrick pitched for two innings, giving up six runs on poor defensive play by the Red Devils.
Jake Ryder climbed up on the mound to minimize the bats of Clinton the rest of the way and finish out the game. The Red Devils had several errors and their hitting and baserunning wasn’t very good.
However, Clinton’s bats were hot and their base running was solid. The finale score of the game was 8-4.
Their last home game of the season was April 26.
The Appalachian Valley Middle School Conference tournament begins Saturday, May 1, with the semi-finals and final on May 3 and 4 respectively at Union County High School.

Red Devils continue win streak
The Red Devils continue their win streak as they defeat the Claiborne County Bulldogs. The Red Devils traveled to the Bulldogs home turf and came home with a 13-5 win.
To start off the HMMS defense on the hill was Ty Edds and Harlen Hunley was behind the plate. Ty pitched two innings, picking off three players and letting only one run in for the Bulldogs.
In relief came Jake Ryder in the third for some needed work on the bump. Tucker Flanning also threw the last inning to get some time on the mound
The Red Devils were led in hitting with Edds and Ryder both collecting two hits each. Bases were stolen throughout the game by Harlen Hunley, Maddix Wyrick, Daniel Bailey, and Ty Edds had five steals with one stealing home. The win continued their streak to six games and made their record 12-2.

Lady Devils rip Cleveland
The Lady Red Devils traveled south to Cleveland Middle School. Where they took home a win 3-1 on April 15.
The Lady Red Devils found themselves in a battle early but got their bats going and ran away with the victory.
Aleyia Satterfield toed the rubber and had a solid pitching performance along with her battery partner Teagan Monroe.
The bats got going with hits, steals, and runs coming from Emery Bales, Ava Biggs, Carley Sexton, and Savannah Fee. Pitching was Emery Bales, Ava Biggs, Carley Sexton, Teagan Monroe, and Savannah Fee.
The Lady Devils will be played Campbell County on April 20.

Lady Devils overrun Bulldogs
The Lady Devils hosted Claiborne County on April 14.
The Lady Devils started off with Emery Bales pitching and finishing the game. The Lady Devils didn’t have the best beginning in the first two innings being down 1-5.
The third inning came along and the Lady Devils fought and brought the score to 5-5. Emery Bales and Aleyia Satterfield both stole home after a ball went past the catcher, adding two runs for the Lady Devils.
The Devils went on to add two more runs to extend the lead 9-5 and win the game. Their record is 11-1 overall and 7-1 in the district.

Red Devils rough win over Rutledge
The Red Devils hosted the Rutledge Pioneers last Friday night. Jake Ryder started on the rubber for the Devils.
Ryder started off struggling, then he pulled himself together to shut down the Pioneers’ bats, only giving up one run in the first inning. Tucker Flanagan tied the game up at 4-4, hitting a RBI to score.
Reed came in relief to hold the Pioneers to only one earned run but Rutledge put four runs on the Devils the next three frames.
The Red Devils were down 8-4 in the bottom of the fourth then managed to drive in two runs.
Reed gave up one run in the Pioneers last at bat run for the score to 9-6.
Daniel Baley led off the inning with a ground ball to third and reached on an error.
Ty Edds was up to bat and waiting for his pitch. Edds got the pitch he was looking for all night and hit a two-run bomb to make the score 9-8.
The Devils were still down one run needed to pull out one more. Wyrick had two strikes on him; he got the pitch and hit a solo home run to tie the game up.
Ryder hit a single too short to get on base, and Hunley was hit by a pitch and with runners at first and second with one out Reed flew out to short center field. With two outs Ryder stole third base then scored on a passed ball to steal home for the win on the Devils 8th grade night.
Horace Maynard is undefeated in conference play with three games remaining with a record of 9-0 and over all record of 11-2.
