There was “More Fiddlin' Around” as fiddle lovers of all ages welcomed competitors in Union County Heritage Festival's Second Annual Fiddle Contest on Saturday, October 5, 2019. Amateur fiddlers took the stage and performed their best renditions of some fiddle favorites. While the judges were wrestling with very difficult decisions, all of the fiddle participants and several of the guitar, string bass, and mandolin players leaped to the stage to entertain the crowd with an impromptu performance of several popular fiddle tunes.

Winning first place was Kasey Moore, who received $300. Kasey played “Lost Indian”. Second place went to Eric Nafziger, who won $200 for playing “Maiden's Hair”. Austin Stovall took third place to win $100.

The fiddle contest was made possible through an Arts Fund Grant from the East Tennessee Foundation. The grant paid for the winners from the first fiddle contest to attend LMU Music Week and receive individualized training from a master fiddler.

Soon there may be members of the Luttrell Fiddle Club competing in the fiddle contest. The Arts fund grant also bought a class set of fiddles for the Luttrell Elementary Music program. Ms. Jennifer Fields directed the club in their first public performance at the Heritage Festival. The club demonstrated various chords and played three tunes. Over 100 children are participating in the experience of learning to play the violin.
