The extremely popular Hay Bale Decorating Contest will spruce up Union County for the fall. UT Extension Union County will sponsor the Hay Bale Decorating Contest to provide a warm welcome for all of our visitors to the 14th Annual Union County Heritage Festival. The contest is open to all Union County Businesses, Clubs, Organizations, Committees, Schools, and Groups.

Contest Rules

1.Register your hay bale by completing the entry form below. Submit to ashley.mike@utk.edu, UT Extension Union County Office 3925 Maynardville Hwy, Maynardville, TN 37807.
2. Registration deadline is Friday, September 26th.
3. Hay bales must be decorated by Wednesday, October 3rd at 12 noon. Judging will begin on Wednesday, October 3rd at 1:00 pm.
4. Participants must provide all decorating materials. No hay bales will be provided.
5. There is no limit to the size or number of bales of hay used. Any combination of round or square bales is allowable. For safety purposes, round bales will not be stacked on top of each other.
6. Entries will be judged on eye appeal, use of space & materials, creativity, and adherence to theme.
7. The theme of the 2018 Hay Bale Contest is “Quilts of Union County”.
8. The bales should be decorated with a good clean wholesome nature. No vulgar or suggestive decorations will be allowed – this includes people rolled up inside a bale with feet or head sticking out.
9. Bales can be placed lying on their side or standing on end. This will be your choice.
10. Decorations should be weather and wind-proof.
11. Paint may be applied to the hay bale. No paint on concrete area is allowed.
12. No political party signs of any kind are allowed.
13. Results will be posted on UT Extension Union County Facebook at 4 pm on Thursday, October 4th.
14.To preserve a neat appearance, please remove your decorations as they begin to deteriorate due to the weather. At the latest, please remove by November 1st.
