Hairy Forehead
This should come as no surprise, but I have the strangest things happen to me. Such as the time I blew cherry pie filling out of my nose. I first realized I was prone to things like this when I was around 12 years old. Whenever I had one of my strange experiences, I would ask my friends, “Does that happen to you?” They always answered. “Uh…no.”
I kinda got used to it. Or so I thought.
This experience happened many, many years ago as I was getting ready for school. I stumbled into the bathroom and flipped the light on so I could wash my face. I looked at my reflection and I was absolutely horrified. There was a long hair dangling from the middle of my forehead. Now, I know what you’re thinking: it was only lying on my forehead. I had hoped that as well, but when I pulled on it, not only did it hurt, but my skin moved with it.
I knew I couldn’t cut it because it would keep growing back. So, I did the only other thing I could in that situation. Screaming, I ran to my mother. “Mom! I have a long hair growing out of my forehead.”
I know that may sound trivial to some of you, but to a teenage girl, it is devastating.
Naturally, my mom didn’t believe me at first and gave the hair a gentle yank. “Yep,” she said. “It’s definitely in there. If I hadn’t seen it, I wouldn’t have believed it.” That didn’t make me feel any better.
“What am I going to do?” I cried. “I can’t go to school like this.”
My mother simply answered, “Pluck it out.” I had her do it because plucking a hair from your forehead was just too weird, even for me. And what if I didn’t get it all and it grew back? I imagined myself shaving my forehead.
I couldn’t imagine how the hair was implanted there. My mom gave her idea of an explanation. One of my hairs that had fallen out, happen to have a root and it also happened to land on my forehead and into a pore. By the way, I have oily skin, and if you have that, then you are blessed with large pores in your skin.
To be honest, I couldn’t understand why God allowed things like this to keep happening to me.
“And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are called according to his purpose.” Romans 8:28 (KJV)
Looking back, it is all so clear to me now why I had all of my strange experiences. The Lord knew that I would realize my calling to write for Him and I would need stories to do that. Now when things happen to me, I see them as blessings as well writing material.
How cool is that?
