Girls Tennis Doubles Team Makes School History

Jaden Ayers on the left and Alyssa Long on the right

Alyssa Long and Jaden Ayers, UCHS one seed doubles team, advanced to the Regionals for the second year in a row. Both girls are Juniors at Union County High School and have played tennis together since middle school.

Alyssa Long is seeded number one in singles and does an excellent job. Jaden Ayers is seeded number two in singles and also does an excellent job. But when these two team up in doubles, people pay attention. Last year as sophomores the girls won the doubles district championship. This year they came in second against a good Halls team (1-6, 7-5, 3-6).

Monday, May 13, Long/Ayers advanced to the Regionals and faced a doubles team from Catholic High School. Catholic High School has a strong tennis team and program. This was a challenging match for Long/Ayers because CHS has been to the state doubles championship in the past, winning first place.

As a doubles team, Alyssa Long and Jaden Ayers had only 2 district loses (Halls and Central). They came back to beat Central for second place in the district and this win advanced them to the Regionals.

Alyssa and Jaden work well together. Alyssa can hit baseline to baseline all day while Jaden looks for the net opportunity to put the ball away.

Congratulations Lady Patriots for making school history at UCHS Tennis.
