Fun Facts About Happenings in Union County Schools

As we continue in this time of uncertainty and fear, life must go on in some ways. A part of that is that children need an education. There are many aspects of a child’s education that go beyond a classroom or basic learning. These things include but are not limited to sports, band, music lessons, dance lessons, fundraisers, and community support. All of these and more contribute to a child’s education in ways many cannot see.

Union County Schools have striven to continue all of these as safely as possible during the COVID-19 Crisis. Many things have become virtual or have been changed, but education must go on. Let’s take a look at some of the highlighted things from this month in our County’s schools.

The Horace Maynard Middle School Boys Varsity Basketball Team Pulled off two wins recently against Maury (Jeff Co.)—55-39 & against Clinton—58-26.
During the game against Clinton, Cade Murphy scored 38 points, passing a HMMS record!! Again in the game against Maury, Murphy scored an impressive 31 points with 17 rebounds, accompanied by Ty Edds who scored 18 points. So far the HMMS Boys varsity team has a spectacular record at 10-1, all 10 of the wins being double digit wins.

Congratulations to the Union County High School Student of the Month: Daniel Muncey!!!!

Another Heartfelt Thanks to the UCHS Teacher of the Month: Mr. Landon Brady!! Thank you to Mr. Brady and all the wonderful teachers like him who are doing such impactful work.

“Adopt a 2021 UCHS Senior”

With all the confusion of Covid-19, many parents have lost their jobs or had fewer work hours due to Coronavirus, and therefore many seniors will not have such a wonderful senior year. Whether it be missed scholarship opportunities, not as nice of a graduation party (or none at all), many of these students are missing out on the great benefits being a senior brought you and me.

One way we can help the senior class of 2021 in Union County is through the “Adopt a 2021 UCHS Senior”. The link can be found on Facebook and anyone can “adopt” someone in some way. How it works is a parent will post some information about their senior and maybe some photos, and those of us who choose to be “adoptees” can do what we think is best for the student we have chosen. It can be a card, a small gift, a care package, or even a large gift if you are blessed monetarily enough to be able to do so. What is amazing is that you don’t have to just adopt one student. So no pressure to choose “the one”.

Please do not contact the seniors without their parent’s consent first.

Be sure to check that out if you are interested in being a part of someone’s rise into adulthood!
