The Freedom Concert Gospel and Patriotic Music

The Poet Voices will start this special concert with a sing-along of famous hymns and will then introduce the Union County High School Band, under the direction of Hunter Collins. The band will open with the National Anthem, accompanied by the Poet Voices bass singer KC Armstrong, a former member of the US Air Force Singing Sergeants and, later, the US Army Chorus.

The band will perform Let Freedom Ring, which is a medley of familiar tunes. From the opening strains of "O beautiful, for spacious skies" which ring from the traditional "America," to the familiar melodic flow of "My Country, Tis of Thee," and concluding with "God of Our Fathers," this combination of favorite tunes provides everyone the opportunity to exhibit the patriotic spirit - an important part of the American heritage. The audience is encouraged to participate and to sing along!

To conclude their portion of the concert, the UCHS Band will be performing the Marches of the Armed Forces. This medley features the service songs of the Air Force, Marine Corps, Army, Navy, and Coast Guard. We encourage all veterans and active military in the audience to stand and be recognized for their service.

Before intermission, the Union County Lions Club will announce and congratulate the Union County High School 2024 recipients of the Mark Martin Scholarship.

After Intermission, the Poet Voices will return to the stage with their classic songs as well as a medley of the Oak Ridge Boys songs as a special tribute to them. This is, unfortunately, the last year that the Oak Ridge Boys will tour. Their performances will be missed.

The concert is on May 18th at 7:00. Doors open at 6:00. Tickets are $20 each and available at the door or in advance at the Kitchen Design Center, 2945 Maynardville Hwy. Veterans and active military are invited to attend. Please call VSO Kevin Manley 865-661-7243 for your free ticket.
