Fight, Flight, or Hide?
Just when you thought it was safe to go out without a mask...
Full disclosure, this is my daily musing written from the viewpoint of a Christian. Read, or ignore. Agree, or disagree. Two freedoms that are ultimately still yours, along with many others.
As a believer, in trying to maneuver through this C-19 crisis in the best way I can, I frequently find myself shifting between some fear and a little arrogance while attempting to find the perfect point between the two. In speaking with others, while many are exactly where I am, I hear fear, and a lot of arrogance in some of them as well.
I don’t feel I have gone completely to the dark side and am living in absolute terror; but I will admit to living in dread. I have experienced moments when I go darkly into that darkest, dreariest tank, and others, where I hear the delightful songs of birds, or see the early morning sun cast its beams between the newly awakened trees and flowers. That is when I am reminded, God has this.
It often makes me want to pull out my hair trying to find the balance I can live within. Do I roam through the grocery store, or use curbside pickup? Do I prepare all food at home, or support local restaurants? Do I use the drive thru at the pharmacy, or have prescriptions delivered? Or...none of the above?
Should we crawl into caves and pray that the rocks will fall on us, or do we flaunt our freedom and deny our government has the right to make any decisions for us during this time? AHG!!!
All humans are immortal in spirit, but not in this earthly body. While believers realize that God does know when our time will come, is it wise to tempt Him to either shorten or lengthen that time? God is Omnipotent. God is in control. He can and will choose who survives for now, and whose spirits leave the earth during this time; via C-19, or otherwise. Keep in mind, there are still many who are dying from causes other than this horrid virus.
How we choose to live in this time must be a personal decision for each of us; while also keeping in mind how that decision affects any others that dwell within the same cocoon, or that we may come in direct contact with, or who would suffer grief with our passing.
Part of my daily Bible reading today comes from Luke 4. It is a familiar passage as we see Jesus tested by Satan in the wilderness. In the end, Jesus spurned the devil for tempting Him to presume upon His Father, God.
Below is the excerpt from Luke 4 that caught my heart today:
The devil led him (Jesus) to Jerusalem and had him stand on the highest point of the temple. “If you are the Son of God,” he said, “throw yourself down from here. For it is written: “He will command his angels concerning you to guard you carefully; they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.”
Jesus answered, “It is said: ‘Do not put the Lord your God to the test.’”
When the devil had finished all this tempting, he left him until an opportune time.
If our Lord and Savior, Jesus, the Son of God, refused to be so bold as to test His Father God’s grace in His own life, should we live any differently?
In this time, as always, it is of utmost importance for us to remember to extend grace to any whose views may differ from our own. We are often a country divided, let's not become divided over this.
