Local agriculture partners collaborated and hosted the annual National Ag Day Farmer Appreciation Breakfast on March 23. Farmers and producers from across Union County were invited to celebrate their hard work and dedication in honor of the nationally recognized day.
The farmers received a complimentary breakfast and a bag full of promotional items in recognition of their efforts throughout the year to preserve our county's farmlands and rich agricultural history.
UT Extension Union County and Union County Soil Conservation District joined efforts in organizing this event to show gratitude to the folks who so diligently spend their days, and many nights, working the land. More than 75 farmers made their way to the event and were honored to be celebrated. Union Farmers Co-op hosted the event. It was quite the good choice since it is a busy time for fertilizing and the business was bringing in truckloads of folks, even a few on tractors.
Smiles and biscuits were shared and enjoyed by all. The day is a small token to celebrate the long hours, nights and days, good and not so good weather, broken fences, fallen trees, dried ponds, droughts, floods, calves pulled, hooves trimmed, flat tires, broken balers, bottle feedings, soil tilled, and so many more obstacles to which these ladies and gentlemen dedicate their lives.
Agriculture is our most important industry and National Ag Day is a chance for us to recognize and show our appreciation for all farmers do. American agriculture is the foundation of our country. It’s the backbone of a healthy and prosperous nation, made possible by the hard work of America’s farms and farm families. These individuals have been essential since the very beginning, but in 2020, many received a glimpse of how truly essential farmers are as they worked diligently to ensure grocery shelves could be restocked and food could be on our tables. That’s why, this year especially, National Ag Day is celebrated as a chance to honor those who deserve to be praised every day for what they do.
