Union County Heritage Festival Pie Baking Contest
• Grand Prize is $100
• Pies are due on Thursday Oct. 5, 4 to 5 p.m. or Friday Oct. 6, 8 to 11 a.m. at the new Extension office at 2721 Maynardville Hwy.
• Categories are Fruit, Nut and Other.
• First prize in each category is $50 each category and the total prize money is $250.
• The contest is open to all ages and there is no entry fee.
• Pies must be homemade.
• Pie pans will not be returned to contestant.
• The FCE Club will have the final say on acceptability of pies.
• Complete the registration form when bringing in your pies to the office.
• Refrigeration is provided for pies if it is needed.
• All contestants must provide a written recipe for their pie(s) and allow it to be shared.
Entry in the contest constitutes your permission to have your photo taken during the announcement ceremony and for the photo to be used to promote the Heritage Festival.
Pies become the property of the Heritage Festival and pies and pie pans are not returned. Proceeds from the sale of the leftover pies will be used as a fundraiser for FCE & 4-H projects.
Judging will be done on Friday, Oct. 6, at noon. Pies will be judged for overall appearance, crust and taste.
All pies will be sold on Facebook 2-5 p.m. on Friday Oct. 6, and at the 4-H concession stand booth at the Heritage Festival in Wilson Park. They will be sold on a first come first served basis. Whole pies minus one slice used for judging will be sold.
All proceeds from the sale of pies will be used for Union County FCE and 4-H programs to fund activities.
Grand prize Pie will be sold for $25, 1st Place pies will be $15 each and all other pies will be sold for $10.
