Drive in for Kindergarteners
The 2020-21 Union County Schools Kindergarten Round-up will look a bit different this season with a drive-in style registration. Union County Public Schools K-12 Curriculum Supervisor Dr. Lauren Effler hopes to make the process as easy as possible for parents.
“While it is important for us to get the paperwork and numbers of upcoming kindergarteners so that we can prepare for them accordingly, we are also hoping to give parents the assurance they need when leaving their babies in our hands,” said Effler. “Last year my oldest started kindergarten, and even though I work for the school system, it was still an emotional time.”
Effler says the hope is to start building relationships with parents and upcoming students even if it is drive-in style.
Parents will bring the information mentioned on the flier and school staff will be able to assist and help them through any questions that they may have. Each school will also be sending home practice packets and additional information for students.
“We hope that if parents feel comfortable, they can let their child accompany them during this round-up day,” Effler said. “We want them to see their future school, teachers and principals while in the convenience of their car.”
All upcoming kindergarteners will also receive a story book to take home courtesy of the Central Office. Effler said the goal is for new students to feel comfortable and excited for school while also letting parents know that their child is already loved by so many.
Kindergarten Round-up will be held Thursday, May 28 from 4-6:30pm at each elementary school. See photo for more details and a list of items parents need to bring for the registration.
