Dollar Tree coming to Plainview

Plainview is one step away from approval for a Family Dollar/Dollar Tree at Corryton Road and Tazewell Pike.
In January, Stewart Skeen, who oversees city codes enforcement, and Josh Collins, of the planning commission, met with the developer to ensure that all requirements were understood and being met. After that meeting, the developer submitted a detailed plat. The developer also submitted a request to reduce the required number of parking spaces from 52 to 25. The planning commission approved the plat pending action by the Plainview Board of Zoning Appeals (BZA), which will meet on February 14 to consider the request. A public notice is necessary before the BZA meets. At their next regular meetings, the planning commission and the board of aldermen plan to take action on the matter.
The board of aldermen approved Resolution 80 for a Community Development Block Grant of $400K to improve the intersection of Corryton Road and SR 131 (Tazewell Pike). An entrance to the Dollar Tree is planned on both roads.
Resolution 81 was also approved to add a non-discrimination policy for all Plainview projects and activities.
Police Chief Brandon Ford shared a detailed report of the police activities during December. The department answered 49 calls including 4 burglary alarms, 2 domestic assaults, 4 welfare checks, 4 reckless driver stops, 1 stalking, 12 traffic violations, 4 wrecks, 1 theft and several citizen questions or concerns. Chief Ford said he intends to give the aldermen this more inclusive report monthly.
Fire Chief Brad Woods also shared the activities of the Luttrell Volunteer Fire Department (LVFD). Plainview maintains a station inside the city limits for the LVFD. In 2022, LVFD received 122 calls and answered 113 of those calls. Other volunteer fire departments answered nine of the calls that came during the time when all of the firefighters were at work and not available. LVFD firefighters completed a total of 562 hours of required training. Chief Ford also praised Gordon Bright, who volunteers to drive the 1,250-gallon tanker. He also serves on the board of aldermen.
The next Plainview meetings will be February 14 beginning at 6:30 p.m. in the Plainview Community Center.
The Plainview Neighborhood Watch meeting will be on Thursday, February 16, at 7 p.m.
