Does He Need One of My Kidneys?
Does he need one of my kidneys? That was my first response when I heard that Aaron, a man I had only met a couple of times, was in kidney failure and was on the transplant list. Can God put something on your heart that quick?
After a few weeks of prayer, research, and the recurring question of how crazy it was to even be considering this, God made it clear. In May 2015, my pastor brought a message from Joshua 5:1-15. I'm struggling with voluntarily having a major surgery and whether God will provide. If you read this scripture that is exactly what the Israelites are dealing with. Sometimes what God asks us to do doesn't make sense but He will provide, if we are obedient.
After that message, (along with other signs) I shared with my wife how serious I was about donating a kidney and I was wondering who I needed to contact. A couple of days later she came home and handed me a card with UT Hospital's Transplant Clinic information on it. She told me Aaron gave it to her and said "if you know anyone with an extra kidney tell them to call this number." So, I did.
I began testing to see if I would be a match at the end of May. On June 2, the transplant nurse informed me that there were some insurance issues and the transplant needed to be done before the end of June or Aaron would have to start the process all over again at a new hospital. God worked out all the details like only He can do, and on June 24 the transplant surgery was a success!
It's been two years now and by God's grace and for God's glory, Aaron and myself are doing great.
