County 4-H Clover Bowl
On April 11, 4th and 5th grade teams from Big Ridge, Luttrell, Maynardville, Paulette and Sharps Chapel Elementary Schools gathered at Horace Maynard Middle School to compete in the Union County 4-H Clover Bowl. Students had previously competed in their in-school contest to qualify to represent their school in the county contest.
Clover Bowl is an educational contest that quizzes 4-H members on Science, Life Skills, Agriculture, Government, Tennessee History, and 4-H. Participating in this contest makes 4-H members well-rounded in a variety of topics while also developing their teamwork, leadership, and communication skills.
Clover Bowl is a single elimination contest and the night began with the 4th grade competitions. The final winner, for the 2nd year in a row, was Maynardville Elementary School! Competing on the team were Coty Webb, Presley Lay, Scarlett Hughes, Natalie Yerdon, and alternate, Tealyn Graves
Our 2nd place winner in the 4th grade division was Paulette Elementary. Competing on their team were Avery Branscomb, Carter Roderick, and Zoe Thompson.
Following them in 3rd place was Big Ridge Elementary. Their team consisted of Asher Effler, Cooper Fuller, Piper Gideon, and Dash Webb. Next, in 4th place, was Ava Chamberlain, Landon Jessee, and Bree Williams representing Luttrell Elementary.
After ribbons, congratulations and pictures, the 5th graders began their competition. This year, the Big Ridge Elementary team won the evening! Competing for Big Ridge Elementary were Trip Webb, Ella Ryder, and Levi Raper.
Sharps Chapel Elementary had a strong performance and placed 2nd with their team of Avery Bowman, Holli Capps, Raelyn Helton, and Olivia McCubbins.
3rd place was secured by the Maynardville Elementary team consisting of Amelia Douglas, Isabella Douglas, Kaydon Lamberson, Nate Miller and alternate Lexxi Cummings. 4th place went to Cole Brown, Viper Nolan, Case Richardson, Paisley Scarborough, and alternate Cole Turner. Our 5th place team consisted of Deacon Collins, Melissa Lewis, Willow Lewis, and Brianna Naylor from Luttrell Elementary.
We would like to congratulate all of the 4-H’ers for representing their schools so well, and for all the hard work they put into preparing for the contest. That was a lot of studying! We would also like to thank their parents, grandparents, guardians and all those that attended. Our young 4-H’ers cannot participate, learn and grow without your help. We also need to thank the middle school and all our volunteers that helped that evening!
What’s next? The winning teams will represent Union County at the Eastern Region 4-H Clover Bowl Contest. Right now, the students are busy studying in preparation for this May 18 event that takes place on the UT campus. Join us in wishing the 4th grade team from Maynardville Elementary, and the 5th grade team from Big Ridge Elementary, the best of luck.
