Chug a Lug
Have you ever chug-a-lugged a drink? That’s when you turn the drink container up and guzzle it down as fast and as noisily as you can.
Unless I was playing ball on a hot summer day, I wasn’t allowed to chug -a-lug a drink. Why? If you have ever read any of my articles, you know that my family was and still is very steeped in southern etiquette. Part of that was how you ate and drink. For one, you didn’t make any unnecessary noises such as smacking your lips or slurping. When somebody (usually me) slipped up and did that at the table, they were met with scowls and an uncomfortable silence. That experience stayed with me for years. That is until I was carrying my daughter Sara.
I was a few months along with Sara when I began to crave chocolate milk. The problem with that was I had issues with dairy. It has never liked me too much. After I drank some chocolate milk, I would be sick for a day or two. None the less, I still craved it and had to have it. There was this one evening when Tim and I were on our way home form the grocery store. Of course, I bought a half gallon of chocolate milk. When was Tim placing the groceries in the back of the car, I took out the chocolate milk and sat it up front with me. As we drove home, I was sipping on it. Or so I thought until I head him say, “Brooke! What are doing?” Yep, I was chug-a-lugging. I had turned the cartoon up and was gulping down the chocolate milk.
After I told my doctor about my shameful chug-a-lug incident, he tested my blood and discovered that my calcium level was too low. Soon after he placed me on calcium pills, I quit craving chocolate milk. My body was making me have that craving so I could get the much needed calcium into my system. If you think about it, that is amazing. Even though I inhabit my body, it is somehow different from me. My spirit is the same. It also tries to tell me what it needs such as craving God’s Word.
“Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost.” Matthew28:18-20 (KJV)
In this verse, God is described as three distinct persons and yet, being one God. Together, but each One is Unique. We are the same in that we are three in one: Mind, body, and spirit. It makes sense since we are created in His image: Genesis 1:27. I don’t know about you, but to me, this is actually mind blowing.
Have I chug-a lugged since that incident? Nope, I have not, but don’t be disappointed. Now, I like to blow bubbles in my drink. It was more fun and not as messy.
