Chiropractor gets olympic call to care for athletes: part III

Dr Matthew Hartsburg’s Olympic dream finally became a reality when he was invited, after waiting several years, to join the medical team caring for Team USA athletes in the recent Beijing winter games.

A licensed chiropractor with a practice in Danbury, Connecticut, in 2017 he began treating athletes at the United States Olympic Training Centers in Colorado Springs, Colorado and Lake Placid, New York.

The next year, Hartsburg received his diploma with the American Chiropractic Board of Sports Physicians — a 300-hour post-doctorate continuing-education program including a sports medicine residency — and began working with the USA Bobsled & Skeleton as part of the World Cup and World Championship sports medicine team.
“It was great to be invited to be part of the medical team,” Hartsburg said of his first foray with the Team USA Bobsled and Skeleton teams. “But it was a bigger honor to be asked back.”

He has also covered multiple international events for the Nitro Circus, World Skate, and the Dew Tour with WMI Global, Inc. He specializes in the golf swing and body connection with a certification by the Titleist Performance Institute.

Currently, he acts as the official team chiropractor for the Danbury Westerners Baseball Team, the Danbury Rugby Football Club, and the Danbury Hat Tricks Professional Hockey Team. “what means the most is the support my family and I receive from my community,” Hartsburg said. “Now it is our turn to rally around these athletes. I’m grateful to be able to do my part to help them as they compete on the world stage.”
