Chiropractor gets olympic call to care for athletes: part I

A chiropractor’s Olympic dream has become a reality.

Dr. Matthew Hartsburg, a Shelton, CT resident and owner of danbury-based Hartsburg Chiropractic Health Center LLC, has spent the last six years working with the USA Bobsled and Skeleton teams as part of the world cup and world championship sports medicine team.

He recently got to use his medical craft to aid the athletes in the 2022 Winter Olympics. It was only a few days before the Olympics started that Hartsburg got the call saying he was going to Beijing. After two negative CovId tests, he left for Los Angeles to meet the U.S. delegation and head to Beijing for the winter Olympics. The bobsled and skeleton competitions were held at the Yanqing National Sliding Center.

“This is a dream come true,” Hartsburg said. “I am so grateful. I understand a lot of medical providers would love this opportunity.”

Hartsburg has traveled extensively with the Team USA bobsled and skeleton teams as part of their world cup competition. In January of this year, he was in Winterberg, Germany, and St. Moritz, Switzerland, with the teams, but the trip to China was his first Olympic experience.

“For me, I grew up watching the Olympics ... watching this big celebration of unity, teamwork, and dedication,” said Hartsburg, who was an alternate for Team USA for the 2020 Summer Olympics, held in 2021, through the United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee.
