Cheesy Pizza Bread

Cheesy Pizza Bread

The Pizza Parlor in Maynardville made good pizza. I worked there for a while as short order cook when they first opened. I prepped and made the salads as well as the spaghetti sauce. It was a time of learning for me. I had never before cooked ground beef in water, stirred to separate it and then drained before adding to tomato sauce to make a spaghetti sauce. Made that was, there was very little oil to skim off the finished sauce. Not enough to bother with.

When I didn't have a grill order to prepare, I was THE dishwasher. I didn't like to do dishes at home, I never have, but there was something about getting paid to do it that lightened the chore. Others washed dishes as well, but it was my responsibility at the end of the day.

Kathy Seymour's dad was a primo pizza maker. He made his own dough, sauce and cheese mixes. He was very jealous of those recipes. If he thought I was watching him, he would quit and do something else. He made a great pizza bread snack. I did watch him make that with the idea of copying his ingredients and procedure. You can buy a pizza bread snack at other places, but his was the best.

Time moves on. Kathy's dad is gone. Kathy is gone. I don't work at a job anymore. Things aren't the same. Thats all right. It is time for the next generation to take over. I do have my memories. I miss the Pizza Parlor and his Cheesy Pizza Bread.

MY CHEESE PIZZA BREAD.

6 ½ oz pkg pizza dough mix or your own recipe
½ cup butter or margarine, melted
1 tablespoon minced garlic
1 teaspoon dried Italian seasoning, crushed
¼ teaspoon or more seasoned salt
2 cups (8-oz) shredded mozzarella cheese

Prepare pizza dough according to directions. Pat out to a rectangle in a greased 9 by 13 inch baking pan. In a medium bowl, combine melted margarine, minced garlic, Italian seasoning and seasoned salt. Use half of the butter mix to brush over the prepared dough in the pan. Bake at 425 F. until just done but not browned. Remove from oven. Brush with remaining melted butter mix. Sprinkle with shredded cheese. Return to oven at same temperature to bake until cheese is melted. Slice and serve hot. Delicious.
