Bootcamp Beasting Union County

Kayla Torra of Self Made Personal Training and Fitness

Kayla Torra, owner of Self Made Fitness, has introduced a new level of fitness classes in Union County. For the month of June, Torra has hosted a Fit Camp at Sweet Southern Tumbling on Durham Drive. Classes are held every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 5:00 to 6:00 in the morning; yes, in the morning, before work or school or daily lives typically begin.

From Knoxville, Torra went out on a whim bringing the classes to Union County on the word of friend Tonya Wolfenbarger, expressing that there was a need in the community. She found a space and the classes have been a rave since startup. The response and support shown by the community was astronomical. Torra says, “I’m blessed to be a part of this special group. I have met so many wonderful people.” The classes have averaged thirty or more dedicated early risers for the month. Her classes are a bootcamp style that focus on a lot of body weight or plyometric types of exercises.

Torra is married with two daughters and two stepsons. She has always loved sports and fitness, playing basketball in high school as well as competing in martial arts. She currently holds the rank of Sho-Dan 1st degree black belt in the style of Isshin-Ryu Karate. She is a licensed cosmetologist, a registered nurse, and tests in November for her personal training certification through the NFPT organization. Nearly everything she has accomplished in life has been centered around helping others feel better about themselves. She says, “Through health and wellness I found purpose, and it’s an amazing feeling to wake up every day and feel proud about the work I’m doing.”

The most rewarding part about her work, according to Torra, is when clients show her their results. Sometimes they have lost weight, they feel better, their lab work has improved, their results sparked interest in others to get fit; that is what it is all about, creating something positive and passing it on. Fit Camp participant Crystal Collins said, “This experience has taught me that no obstacle is insurmountable when you have friends to pull you through.” The class is a team that pushes each other to be their best selves.

In time, Torra would love to own and operate her own gym as well as continue providing class opportunities. She encourages folks to follow a healthy diet, always stretch, be consistent with workouts and to use proper form and technique. She says, “Fitness is not about being better than anyone else, but is about being the best version of you that you can be.”

Heading into July, Selfmade Fitness will be offering a three-week camp with open enrollment. Dates for these highly motivated classes will be July 1st – 12th and July 22nd – 31st on Monday, Wednesday, Fridays from 5:00 to 6:00 am.
