BOE celebrates retiring attorney Stackhouse

Attorney Mary Ann Stackhouse reads the plaque Director Clay awarded to her at the July BOE Meeting.

The Union County Board of Education invited Attorney Mary Ann Stackhouse to attend the board workshop on July 11, even though she retired at the end of June. Director Greg Clay asked her to approach the front. Clay surprised Stackhouse with a plaque to recognize the 12 years of dedicated service as the lawyer for Union County Public Schools. He commented that he really appreciated all of her advice and the many hours of phone conversations, “of which there were a lot.”
Stackhouse was truly surprised and very appreciative of the recognition and the opportunity to work with Union County. As Director Clay read the plaque, he also quoted the three words that Stackhouse often stated that she had learned about life: “It goes on.”
Mary Ann Stackhouse negotiated numerous contracts including the contract to lease the property to TCAT. She was particularly suited to being the UCBOE lawyer due to her extensive background in education and government law.
Among her many honors are Outstanding Adjunct Teacher Award from the University of Tennessee College of Law in 2001 and the Algernon Sydney Sullivan Award for service and scholarship, and she was named to The Best Lawyers in America, Medical Malpractice Law -Defendants.
Caitlin Burchette is the new attorney for the board. Burchett is an associate of Lewis Thomason in Knoxville, as was Stackhouse.
